Tom was born and raised in Denver. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1973. That same year he began his insurance career with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company’s Denver surety office. He worked for Fireman’s Fund in Denver, Riverside, CA and San Francisco before returning to CO in 1980 and opening his own independent insurance agency in Grand Junction.

Tom’s agency handled all types of business insurance but specialized in construction and bonding. Included in his book were multi-location, nationally ranked general contractors, subcontractors, utility contractors, dirt movers, and all types of specialty contractors. Additionally, Tom was involved with the construction industry through Associated Builders and Contractors, as Charter Member of the Western Slope Chapter, Chapter President, and National Board Member.

In 2003, Tom sold his agency to a national brokerage house and became Chief Sales Officer for the brokerage’s offices in Colorado, New Mexico, and West Texas. He left that position in 2009 and became an independent surety consultant for agencies within the state of Colorado, adding his expertise in commercial & surety insurance to the Pure Risk team.
